How It Works

  1. Post an ad for free. By using this site, you agree to our Terms of Service.
  2. Everything posted on the website is for FREE… no money exchanges hands… You can create ads for someone to come pick up your FREE unwanted items or you can create a “wanted ad” for FREE items that you’d gladly come to pick up. Got a heavy sofa in the basement you want to get rid of? Don’t take it to the dump… post it on…YouPickUp.org. If you’re looking for an old fridge to repurpose into a flower bed… try posting a “wanted ad” on…YouPickUp.org.
  3. Have an old washing machine in the basement and don’t have the strength to haul it up the stair, post an ad and let someone else have it for free, provided they get it out of your basement.
  4. Many people, for example, have heavy furniture or old appliances in their basement. The idea behind YouPickUp.org is that rather than spending money to hire movers or pay to take an old fridge to the dump, you can post an ad for someone who may truly need the fridge or have some new idea of how to re-purpose the fridge. You don’t bust your back, lugging the fridge up the stairs and someone else gets a free fridge. Both parties win and so does the environment. What about old TVs or computer equipment? There are many people who can’t afford a new flat screen TV, who would be happy to come to take your old one off your hands at no cost to either of you.
  5. Alternatively, if a thrift store or charity organization is in need of items, clothes, books, kitchenware, etc., they could post an ad requesting donations with the intent of coming to your place to pick them up. Again a win-win situation where you get to reduce your clutter, without costing money to either party or further polluting the environment. Think about how a local community centre could post an ad looking for dozens of rubber tires to build a creative playground. Schools, small businesses, and communities could use their budgets more efficiently, rather than purchasing new, expensive equipment and you, in return get a sense of supporting the economy and more importantly, the environment.
  6. Have fun repurposing and post your ideas on our blog.
  7. Exercise caution when allowing others into your home, office, garage, etc. Have friends or family with you when someone comes to pick anything up. If possible, place items outside, on your driveway or in the alley. YouPickUp.org is not responsible for any outcomes that occur when a transaction takes place. We are merely facilitating the peer to peer exchange.

Re-Purposing Ideas

We are all about creatively reducing waste and helping our neighbor. In a consumer society, most people either throw stuff in the trash or take it to the dump. In the long run, both options actually cost us money, plus they put additional stress on the environment. YouPickUp.org allows you to post ads for items you’re giving away for free, as long as someone comes to pick them up.
We prefer to upcycle. Upcycling is the concept of re-using something, finding another purpose for something, with an emphasis on recycling and driving home the concept of living “a waste not want not” lifestyle.

If we think about all the plastic that ends up in our oceans, wouldn’t it be great for someone to start a creative business that repurposes plastic water bottles? Or wouldn’t it be amazing to see cities or governments use YouPickUp.org to donate items to other cities or governments who are in need of their so-called “trash”?
Upcycling, Recycling, Repurposing & the Environment – Do your part to help save the planet!

• Instead of filling up the landfill with discarded materials & waste – upcycle!
• Every minute, one garbage truck of plastic is dumped into our oceans.
• Garbage can actually be repurposed & turned into something new!
• Save money, get creative, help others and protect the environment.
Recycling reduces the production of new or raw materials which leads to:
• A reduction in air pollution
• A reduction in water pollution
• A reduction in greenhouse gas emissions
• Conservation of global resources

Please support Youpickup.org to help us reduce landfill waste… one step towards helping the environment!

You make the best of what’s still around”
